You could take the co-existence of Wendy's and all of those new chains as proof Wendy's is unlikely to be disrupted. I suppose I mean't more specifically that people will always be eating cheap hamburgers. As a scaled incumbent Wendy's is likely to be selling them for a long time.
But I see your point. The QSR industry has low barriers to entry and new competitors will always be coming for Wendy's market share. I did a little digging and was able to find a list of chains that have disappeared. One of the is Arthur Treacher's, a fish and chips chain, which was incidentally founded in part by Dave Thomas in Columbus, OH before Wendy's.
